Multi-State CHDO TA
The Partnership has worked successfully with Wisconsin CHDOs since 1992 under a series of contracts with HUD. Based on our track record, our CHDO technical assistance service area has been expanded to include CHDOs in Iowa and Nebraska. As a nonprofit intermediary organization, we cooperate with and assist existing and potential CHDOs in these states as they plan and develop affordable housing in their local areas.
The Partnership works with CHDOs in its multi-state area in two primary ways:
- We offer a broad range of sophisticated technical assistance for the development of housing projects.
- We provide special assistance on organizational and planning issues necessary for housing project development and access to funding for projects.
Broad-Range Development Technical Assistance:
The Partnership's broad-range technical assistance package offers strong support to CHDOs throughout the development process. We will help CHDOs identify and evaluate site options, obtain site control, conduct feasibility analyses, select project development teams, plan construction or rehabilitation, negotiate and secure financing commitments, manage construction and plan for project rent-up or sale.
Priority projects for this kind of technical assistance include the following:
- single-family home ownership projects, which may include purchase and rehabilitation, development of subdivisions using modest, affordable home designs, or construction of condominiums
- rental projects that may be new construction or acquisition and rehabilitation of housing for families or older adults
- projects that provide expanded housing options for people with disabilities
- housing projects that provide construction opportunities for women and minority contractors
Special Assistance on Organizational and Planning Issues
The Partnership can assist nonprofit organizations as they enter the field of affordable housing development and become CHDOs. For example, in some areas of the multi-state region there is little or no CHDO housing activity. The Partnership is working with nonprofit groups as they plan for and take the organizational and strategic steps necessary to become certified as CHDOs. The steps involved in becoming CHDOs make such organizations more likely to successfully develop affordable housing projects.
