Waukesha County CDBG Home Owner Accessibility Grant Program Program Guidelines
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to provide grants (up to $2,500) to very low to moderate income home owners (incomes at or below 80% of area median) in need of modest repairs to provide more accessibility in their homes.
Eligible Households
Eligible recipients are households with a total income equal to or less than 80% of the area median income, adjusted for household size.
Eligible Properties
To be eligible, a property must be an owner-occupied, single-family attached or detached unit in Waukesha County. This includes condominium homes.
Eligible Improvements
Activities should improve accessibility to and within the home. The following are examples of possible improvements:
General Modifications
- Installing ramps
- Changing the level of door thresholds
- Widening exterior doors
- Adding door and doorway peepholes
- Lowering doorbells
- Adding visual doorbells
- Installing rocker light switches
- Making adjustments to rods and shelves
Bathroom Items
- Installing roll-in showers
- Installing shower stalls with 4-inch bottom lip
- Installing grab bars and/or hand-held adjustable shower heads
- Installing level faucets in sink
Kitchen Items
- Installing removable under-sink base cabinets, base cabinets with pull-out shelves, and/or base cabinets with Lazy Susans
- Installing level faucets in sink
- Adjusting countertop height
Maximum Grant Amount
$2,500
