Development Projects
Whether developing a new subdivision or an urban infill condominium project, the Partnership seeks project designs that promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities and their families. One hallmark of our development program is involving people with disabilities, and their advocates, in the design process. To the greatest extent possible, we set aside a percentage of the homes and apartments in our projects for households that include an individual with a disability, and we meet or exceed federal and state requirements for physical accessibility in the housing we produce.
In some of our CHDO technical assistance
work, the Partnership has also helped other nonprofits in their efforts
to create new housing opportunities for people with disabilities. Most recently,
we assisted a Madison-based nonprofit in the acquisition of housing
for people with mental illness. During the late 1980s, we worked with
United Cerebral Palsy of Oshkosh and Walnut Area Improvement Council of Milwaukee
with the development of HUD Section 202 projects.
